Keith, I have seen them check thicknesses of the sheetmetal, here at the stamping plant, when they have a problem with metal splitting,etc, A guy will come out with a handheld device, (looks to be an ultrasound type of deal) and check it for stretching, etc. seemed to be fairly accurate, at least they thought so!

Pont - see if you can get a brand name and model, and also any information on the transducer itself.
