Isn't the only way you can match the engine to a GM car of this era with the protecto plate?

I have the protecto plate for my '67 and I bought it from the original owner with all the documentation including the original sales contract , but 2 of the numbers on the block are transposed. he assured me it was the original engine and I believe it, but I'm not sure anyone else will if I go to sell it but I don't intend to anyway. are messed up numbers like this ever accepted by hardcore collectors?
