Hello. The Crane cams website shows the XR-i system is used with an external resistor. On most GM cars, the resistance is actually a resistive wire in the wire harness and should still be present if the wires have not been modified.
You must keep the resistance to use the XR-i.
A capacitive discharge ignition is usually an aftermarket ignition such as a MSD-6AL. Most standard ignitions are NOT capacitor discharge, although some GM models in the 1960's had CD systems as a high-performance option. CD systems use a different coil and do not use an external resistor.
For your application, use the existing resistor wire and a replacement-style coil, not a coil for CD applications.
