I would consider the old pontiac motors, year '55-'58. If you're looking for small cubic ponchos............

The 301 route is more costly and not going to be as successful in the long run if you want to make power with small cid's.

PS.
I remember some guy on here stroking the 301 (it was just like a sbc 383 really with the short deck and all), using 3.75" stroke crank and sbc rods, sbc pistons and D-port heads with custom intake... But when you've done all that you can't really call it a 301? You have taken away all the personality of a 301, the heads and crank, LOL
