the 1156 bulb of today which I don't know or can't remember if it has a higher wattage then it used too but the single tail light elemint of the 1157 is about 7.9 watts so the 1156 when installed looks like the center has a brake light on so I use a lesser wattage interior type bulb 97 that is around 8 watts the luminus on all three tail lights then appear the same .
