i grew up in Chicago, and near a big Poncho dealer. Venturas were popular new cars for city drivers and I remember seeing more plain Venturas with Sprint grilles [as the 7-ups car] in summer of 73. I kept thinking "dont they have the 4 slot grille?"
Mid year changes are common, and the theory about 'running out of 4 slot grilles' could be true. But also, so could theory that buyer demand made Pontiac offer the 'Sprint' grilles outside of Sprint package mid year. Only PHD would know for sure.
