The fastest that I know of would be in the NMCA (National Muscle Car) "True Street" class.

These cars do a 30 mile cruise and then make three back-to-back quarter mile passes. The only changes allowed between the cruise and the runs are to let air out of the tires (cannot add air, open the hood or add fuel).

Jeff Knox made three passes in the 7.99 range at Memphis this year. He has an early 70s Nova.

The fastest Pontiac in the class would be Mark Scordato's 68 GTO convertible, which won the Milan MI event with a 9.22 average. I believe Hoosiers are his tire of choice.
