Yep, that's what I was trying to say in my other reply, sometimes my words don't come out the way I want since my brain hemorrage. It would think it would be a lot cheaper to have the tranny shop install the shorter shaft. Plus your drive shaft would not be as short; the shorter the drive shaft, the more aggressive the u-joint angle.
