Wide Ratio Rockcrusher
I went to a wide ratio (2.52 first gear) Muncie M22 Rockcrusher in my 71 455HO. I wanted to improve on the stock dead 2.20 first gear. This made a tremendous improvement in the low end torque and drivability of the car. If you analyze the numbers, it is like going from the stock 3.42 rear end ratio to a 3.90. Now the problem is getting enough traction to put the power to the ground. I am running F60 Firestone Wide Oval bias ply. They go up in smoke all the way through first and second. I have thoughts of running soft compound drag radial or bias ply tires, but it is also nice to be able to light up the tires anywhere in first or second. I may go to 245-60 Radial TA's for something in between.
