That was the 389 they were writing about, Smaller than the Fords and the older Hemi's they managed to outrun them. They managed to stay with the 409's in '61 and the 421 outran everything in '62. If Pontiac had been allowed to continue racing, as Chevy was, they would have become the most popular swap engine. They were well on their after '62.
