Forgot to address Bill's comment. He's absolutely right. When I said "the Do335 was the fastest piston-engined aircraft of the war", I was still referring to German aircraft. The Germans sort of abandoned piston-engined advancements by the end of 1944 because they were so far advanced in their jet and rocket development.
