re: the buildup in the crank case, I found a gray-black slimy buildup in a low-mile '64 Buick 225 v6 I was working on ... a more experienced wrench than me said that it was a combination of leaded gas precipitate in car that saw mostly short trips.
I like the idea of using the grill to bake paint onto parts!!
