My thoughts were, aluminum is porous, and it might last longer if it's sealed. And when it comes to touch-up, painted makes it easier. Mask and shoot and it's done.

I didn't prep mine at all, mainly because the stuff I had was dried up and didn't know it until I popped the lid! I had some of that high heat stainess steel exhaust stuff from eastwood. Used to use that on iron heads exhaust ports to prep before painting, made them last a long time before having to reshoot them. Figured I'd try it on the aluminum heads too, just didn't work out that way!
