On the one I have, the line/cable attaches to the bottom of the top mast section (the smallest dia. one) and is crimped to it. The trick would be to remove the cable end without damaging the crimped metal too much, i.e. leaving enuf to crimp the new cable section.
Another thought I had was to join the broken pieces somehow; the joint would need to take some tension and flex. Threading the ends and joining them with a spring, not unlike a spring from a ball point pen, was one thought I had.
