As you can tell by my screen name I grow up with the tiger ads. Seems like it started around 64 but was in full swing by 65-66. They even had the special order paint code "Tiger Gold". Also the promotion of the GTo tiger racing at the strips.
Goat was just street slang and was usually uttered with respect.
In the south poncho was not used much. I think that was a California thing. All this promotion stuff worked. My first Pontiac was a year old 66 tri power four speed GTO and I traded it for a new 68 GTO that I ordered from the factory.
Pontiac was the coolest car to have in the mid to late sixties.
As far as the politically correct stuff you are studying today that may have been the final nail in the coffin. Who would be sensitive about Buick?
