Not weird at all. I had a neighbor who ran a bearing distributor warehouse that told me bearings are made to a standard. It carries over to different makes, different years, different components, and on and on. Dimentions will be the same. Quality of materials will vary. It's universal, pretty much world wide(as far as I know). I suspect engineers will design parts with these standards in mind. You might be surprised if you could find a list of all the applications that bearing is used, and not just automotive. Industrial, aviation, marine, etc. FWIW
