The only MSD boxes I've ever seen affected by high heat are the Digital 6 boxes. My buddy had one on the fenderwell of his '85 Dodge D150 pickup with a rowdy 440. If he sat in traffic for extended periods, it would eventually shut down, and he'd have to wait a few minutes for it to cool down. We bent up a sheetmetal heat shield for it, and it worked fine after that. We also took a small bit of the radiator air and sent it across the box with the shield.

I've always run MSD systems on my other cars, but since the Firebird came with a full Mallory setup when I bought it, it's stayed. The Hyfire 6al is mounted on the firewall above the header, and doesn't have any issues.
