I would check your compression with the number 16 heads. Your compression maybe getting up to around 10.5 or better unless you have ported / opened up the heads. The number 16 heads many times require the use of a dished piston to get the compression down. The general thought is some where around 9.5 to 10 is managable. Be sure to clean up the block and check how far in the hole the pistons are setting. Just food for thought.
