I have only seen this on a small percentage of Pontiac engines. It is an oil deflector, and it isnt really necessary. I would just leave it off. Most 1967-76 valve covers have drip deflectors over each rocker arm anyway. If you are concerned about oil staying on the rocker and not overshooting it, you can use crane "cool nuts". They are polylocks with grooves made in them for oil to run down.Summit and Jegs carry these.
