There was a gas price war (remember those?) here in Houston back in the summer of 1972 - not long before the first gas crisis!
All of the stop-and-rob (convenience store) places which sold gas along a section of Westheimer were competing for gas business. 21.9 cents for regular, and 23.9 for 100 octane premium. Being that I had just started driving, and my first car was a '69 GTO - I thought that I had died and gone to heaven, LOL!
This is when I was used to paying 37.9 for Gulf No-Nox.
