I just spent a good 30 minutes and two glasses of wine laying under the car studying everything. I think you have a really good point and I'lll add that the loop doesn't do the driveshaft alignment any favors either. That loop brings the tail of the trans up about 1/4". 48.5" later, that is a good ways.
