Exactly! It's worked great for almost 30 years! Would I be safer if I stay next to them longer so that they can hit me?

i guess you must have a special license that makes you a safer driver if you speed.

Yup, it's called common sense, situational awareness and a basic understanding of physics. Speed is not the only factor to consider when driving safely, although most folks don't seem to understand that. Proper lane usage, along with a few other things are just as important.
The safest place on the road is inside a very large buffer zone, which means out by yourself, away from other vehicles, regardless of speed. It gives you room to maneuver if something happens to you or another car.

in reference to your ''parade '' driving ,,that is THE SAFEST FORM OF DRIVING.
think about it
parade hits are very light since all are going the same speed VS.
some nut speeding 30 over and plowing into a car
and yes slower moving cars pose the same danger as speeders

Safest form of driving? How about NOT getting hit at all? You're far less likely to get hit if there are no other cars to hit you nearby.
Most of the time, you're far safer going over the limit and passing (avoiding parade hits altogether) then driving exactly the limit next to someone for miles on end.
Why put yourself in the position to be hit, when it's so easy to avoid it? A "parade hit" from an 18 wheeler at 70 (the limit on the interstates down here) is safer than going 10-15 over to pass it? Most folks around here seem to think so.....
Personally, I'd prefer a speeding ticket to an accident, but I am definitely in the minority in these parts.
There must be some type of schooling instinct built in to people. It defies common sense and logic to willingly choose to put yourself into a dangerous position right next to another car (when you have other options) at
any speed, so I assume it's some type of subconscious thing that folks don't even think about. Or it's my other theory that they are all morons!
