we arent talking about a sunday drive on a country road but on a major highway where traffic is so dense,..finding gaps in traffic is a major chore in itself

Well, when you have no choice, you have no choice (heavy traffic etc.). I thought that was obvious.

I'm talking about the rest of the time, where traffic is light and moving. You'll get these knots of 3-5 cars pacing each other in all lanes with miles of clear road ahead of them.

Down here, you can't set the cruise control AT the speed limit on the interstate for more than a minute or so in daylight, due to the 3 lane rolling road block. Even late at night when I'm driving home from work, I'll often come upon 3-4 cars blocking all 3 lanes on the interstate at well below the limit. Why would they do this? There is no logical reason to drive in parade mode when there are other options and it is far more dangerous than leaving a safe interval between cars using the correct lanes.

Where do I get one of these permits that allow me to defy the laws of physics? You realize that 2 objects can't occupy the same space at the same time, right? A lot of folks down here test that regularly.

Common sense. You've got several options. Stay behind him, or pass him and go in front of him. There is NO reason to ever drive right next to another car. Doing so is far more dangerous than passing him.

what if EVERYONE drove using your logic?

It'd be a far more pleasant experience, since driving would be more predictable. (drive right, pass left)

when others are doing the posted speed limits,,you have NO other option unless you want to fall back in traffic and obey the law.

Or wait until there is a safe interval, then pass them and get out of the parade.

Really? Then explain why, in the 29 years I've been driving (and I drive a lot), I've had 3 accidents while in involuntary parade mode (unable to pass because of the rolling road block), going well under the limit, and never had one when exceeding the limit with a large buffer?

rules dont apply to them
they must get that one car ahead
nothing else matters but what THEY want

I completely agree. Those that drive in the left lane when they aren't passing think that the rules, not to mention common sense and courtesy don't apply to them.
