No, the wires do not disconnect from the switch. You'll need to remove the dash pad to make this easier and avoid headaches. If this is a non-A/C car, it's even easier.
- Remove screws holding in light above radio
- Remove screws along the upper dash ledge (above gauges on flat chrome)
- Pull back on dash pad (hooked to metal dash in each corner with a push-pin style "spear" that rests in a metal clasp. This is a push-in/Pull-out connection, but it may have significant resistance.
