I did the first design work on the F-150 truck with Turbos about 6 years ago. The direction from Management was "see if it is possible".
My Research & Advanced Engineering organization then did "Press Drives" with magazine writers to see what they thought of the concept. All were very impressed. All were sworn to secrecy, and they kept the secret.
At that point, Management had to decide if we were going to actually go into production with the truck/ ECO-BOOST technology, but it wasn't called that in the early days.
Some of my Management did "Executive Drives" with the people who could authorize the program. The team grew from there and I stepped aside except in a consulting role.
Lots and Lots of people in Ford made ECO_BOOST happen. I was one of the cogs in the machine. Glad you like your truck and am sure your Dad will also like his truck.
