On Firebirds, the 8-track player was mounted on a pedestal under the dash on non-console cars and in the map pocket location on center console cars.
Cassette players were pedestal mounted under the dash on non-console cars and behind the console facing forward since it wouldn't fit in the map pocket area.
The only behind the console 8-track pedestal mount I've seen is for G-bodies since there is no place for it in the console.
