FWIW, for a couple of years, you barely lay hands on the GM Performance Parts ZZ383 engine, which made 425 hp on pump gas with a 750 carb and 1-3/4" headers, and ran on 87 octane pump gas.
The alloy Fastburn heads did such a good job at homoginzing the mixture and burning it properly, it could handle just shy of 10:1 static and run like a striped a$$ ape.
Now, everyone is going to LS motors, which punch that up to about 11:1 static on pump gas (!!!)
