I've never compared them side by side but I think the yokes that use the straps have the u-joint caps sit deeper in the yoke than the yokes with the u-bolts. That might affect how/where the u-bolts clamp against the caps. And of course the holes would have to have to be centered too. I'd consider buying a replacement yoke and not worry with the damaged one.
