The whole mess gets painted body color. Agreed, the door needs to come off. Mark the position of the old hinges with a scribe or paint. Get a buddy,,,the door is heavy. Harbor Freight sells the S-wrench needed to adjust when back on the car. About $12 for a set of the wrenches. Use a HIGH QUALITY Phillips bit and a 5/16" socket on a breaker bar to loosen the screws.....I used a small piece of wood to protect the door frame and partially closed the door on the socket end of the breaker bar to keep the phillips bit planted while I broke the screws loose. Did both hinges on the driver's side door of my '67 convertible, AMES units, and they solved my sag problem and work perfectly.
