Idle and slower throttle response is just fine. Rolling into near WOT briefly felt awesome.

Car never did this before with my tri-power and I didn't pull the distributor to do the swap.
Is the backfire in the secondaries a result of the bog in the primaries? What does it need? Larger front squirter? Suggestions please.

That does not look like an 830 but I can help you ID it.
Look at the driverside of the mainbody casting, just under the aircleaner gasket surface on the primary.
There will be a raised casting letter and number like for example "P-11"
