I have two SKS's, two AK-47's, and an AR-15. All of them shoot better than the guy holding them from the standing position.
From a bench rest the AR-15 is hands down the winner in putting all shots at 100 yards into a 1" group.
At 300 yards, any of them are well on a man sized target if the shooter does his job. Both my SKS and AK's are the better versions with chrome lined chambers, barrels and gas piston parts.
Do NOT assume your SKS or AK is dead solid reliable, as many are NOT chrome lined anyplace.
They require maintenence after every outing, if you want to make sure they go "bang" the next time you use them.
If I had to take only one with me into the field to defend myself, and keep my belly full, I'd take the AR-15. It weighs in with a full 20 round magazine at 7lb 2oz. It has superior sights, ammo is a lot lighter, and deadly accurate.
If you were dropping me off in Southeast Asia someplace in the middle of a rain forest, I'd take my AK instead!......Cliff
