i can't for the life of me remember what it was called, but there is an over the counter putty patch for a leaking gas tank. years ago a buddy of mine put a hole in his tank, got the stuff from and autoparts store and applied it. lasted for many years.

A friend did that to his 69 Charger's gas tank years ago. Compressed air in the filler neck, sealed with a rag. Got 95% of the dent out.
