Last couple of weeks I spend big time reading this great forum. Very usefull info here.
But after searching for PCV issues I can't find the answer I was looking for. First some info…..
We bought our '66 LeMans last winter with a rebuild 326. Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 1406 carb and headers.
In the beginning the car runs great and pics up really well. Now, the outside temperature is rising I have problems with a flooding carb after driving. I find out that the fuel pressure was about 10 psi so I replaced it with a Edelbrock fuelpomp (1713) to get 6 psi and put a 1" spacer between the manifold and carb.. It is better, but flooding is still there.
The watertemp is 190F while driving and runs ends up between 210F and 230F at idling. Thats the next issue……the RPM drops after a 3 minute idle and when I hit the trottle the engine almost stalls en black smoke is coming out the tailpipes. Idling mixture is way to rich. I have set up the idle mixture by the Edelbrock manual and it works good with a normal temperature (190F/210F).
I bought a Edelbrock metering rod/sping set, but do you guys think i can solves the above problem with it?
Now I find out that the PCV valve at the back of the valley pan has become lose. See the pics.
Last week I get a new grommet, but i can't get the PCV valve out. The outside diameter is bigger then the valley pan hole. I think the PCV is not the right type. Do you guys have a sollution?
In the manual (see picture below) there is a PCV system thats hooked up to the Manifold, but mine is hooked up to the air filter.
There is a breather on the pass side valve cover and closed oil cap on the driver side cover. Is this right? The oil pressure is between 35 and 70 psi.
What can i try next?
