Thanks for looking at my pics. Most of them were actually taken by the previous owner, I suck as a photographer. I really feel fortunate to have found and been able to purchase my car, and I enjoy it immensely, but I am jealous of your cars - they are awesome! The restoration and attention to detail are beyond anything I've seen before. You should post a website or publish a book on the restorations and end results, the few photos I've seen are not enough!
Getting back to the steering cooler, what rear end is in your convertible? I heard that if the car has A/C, it had to be 3.23 or lower due to some pressure issue with the compressor, is that accurate? Mine does have the 3.23. |
You are correct! 3.23:1 is the only A/C ratio for manual trans 400 and 400HO models.
The A/C auto trans 400 and 400HO models had the 2.78:1 as standard with the 3.23 as
an option. Non-A/C cars had a long list of optional ratios:3.08,3.23,3.36,3.55,3.90.
My car has the optional 3.23. Still need to install the pipe I had InLine-Tube make.

The higher operating rpm with the optional ratios and higher temps caused by the A/C compressor/condenser can be too much for the cooling system.
