Breatber cap info.
I had a PM asking about the breather cap comment that I made. I am sure more than one person has this issue. I had the oil drip on the valve cover until I noticed something while working with an original untouched for years engine. The old breather cap is taller than most of the one's you can find today. The distance from the gasket to the bottom of the breather cap on the old style is 3/8 of an inch. The same area of the new style is only 3/16th of an inch. That extra 3/16 distance is enough to keep oil from running out of the breather when the engine is running. The first picture is my engine after 100 miles, some of it at 70MPH, most at 55MPH on a 2 lane road. I did not clean the engine at all. The second picture is an old and new breather cap side by side. The black one is original from a 61 engine. The chrome one is aftermarket purchased 3 years ago. Look close and I think you can see the difference.
