They do sell thicker ring gears for 12 bolts so that you don't need a spacer behind it. Don't know if every ratio is available,but worth looking into.
I just looked for a thick ring gear for my 8.5 (Which they DON'T make!), but saw plenty on the market for 12 bolts.
