I was under the mistaken impression about the 3 speed. Looks like a two speed auto... I guess mpg was not a big deal back then...
Also, I had started decoding the tag as well and I was under the impression it was built last week of Sept 67. But, I suppose 66 makes more sense.
When I got down to the last details is where I got lost. The "guide" I found was not very definitive and mostly focused on GTO...
If anyone has more info, advice, suggestions, etc. please post up.
