When my stepson was about 19 he and his dad rebuilt a mid 70's full size Buick. I think it was a 400-425 ci. I kept hearing so much BS about this engine rebuild that I turned a deaf ear to almost every claim that I heard.
Just a couple of claims made me laugh: His uncle, about 150 miles away, was going to rebuild the heads and that was going to make it super fast, like a Nascar car. Just rebuilding the engine (rering, bearings and grind valves) with no other mods would give it 500 HP. It would be so gas efficient because he could idle down the highway at 70. And on and on and on.
BTW none of claims proved to be true. After about 3000 miles he sold it because the motor was going south.
