That's what happened to my starter.... the old one. Had to be rebuilt. And... new starters can be bad too. Take it back, there should be a quarrantee on it if you haven't had it that long.

Suggestion.... DO NOT by one from Auto Zone. Just like their wiper motors, their starters are probably no good right out of the box. I've been down that road with them before. NAPA is the place to go.

Check for corrosion in the + battery cable.

I also installed a 2 gauge wire from the battery to the starter and that made a big difference in starting... for the better.
