I have a 2006 4A and I still have less than 4k after five years. I also own a 2004 with just over 30k. Neither will win any mpg comparisons but they are not bad for what they are. Problem is, you'll like the sound of the ls engines so much you'll rarely want to drive it economically. I found my cars to be quieter and better riding than Honda Accords, and many other family cars. I've had no issues AT ALL with either car in my over seven years of total ownership. Personally, I have enjoyed the '04 more so than the '06, but they ride great, accelerate phenominally, get reasonable mileage, are reasonably quiet, and hold together well.
I think most issues these cars faced were from improper assembly at the factory. I found that my '04 had sway bar links incorrectly installed or missing washers altogether. The factory tie rods are junk and wear quickly. Stories about having to replace springs I feel are unfounded as both by seven year old '04 still sits at exactly the same height as my five year old '06.
It's a great car with some concessions. Trying to reach anything in back or anywhere from the driver's seat can be challenging. Despite some design-induced headaches, I love these cars. The only non-original parts on my 30k '04 are the tires and the driver's side tie rod.
