I drive a 455 equipped '71 Lemans Sport EVERYDAY, and I can tell you the 400hp '06 GTO has VERY smooth low rpm power delivery, much more so than the 455.
Heck, this whole post is like 2003 all over again. I love my old Goats AND my new Goats.
