Some more background for other readers:
I bought this car in 1989 when i was 25 - from the original owner.
Complete Miracle for a young working class car guy.
Lifelong garage kept car.
Paid same sticker price he paid. [insert heart attack]
Which was about 10-15k below market at that time.
Immediately received a standing offer for 18k after i got it home.
Kept it until Feb 2009.
If i ever start playing the lottery - and win - i'll try to buy it back.
Lots of memories and stories tied in with it.
Third or fourth oil change after i got it - i blew the oil filter off of it right after doing the oil change.
Thought that 10/w40 would be good for it in the summer - even though the valve cover decal said otherwise. Revved it too soon before it reached temperature - saw some smoke from undehood - oil pressure gauge dropped - shut it off and looked underneath - puddle of oil in driveway. Felt REAL SICK all of a sudden .....
Was relieved when it was just the filter hanging off, but still worried.
Maybe the Slick50 from a previous servicing helped. idunno
No harm done- but went back to 10/w30 and stayed with it all the way.
PEGGED the tach 3 different ocassions.
All were accidental - but made my knees tremble and my stomach shake for a while each time.
Other than those few blurbs - Always took good care of it and respected it.
So did everyone else. Everybody loved that car.
Lot of comments about that it always looked like it was so happy / smiling all the time.
Used to do some high speed burnouts from a strait rolling start on up through the middle of 3rd gear just to show off and intimidate when enough people were gathered.
Car would take off hauling azz and stay sideways all the while - straiten a little on the shift - but go right back sideways after the shift until next shift. Was said to be a beautiful sight, but never got video'd.
It was an overwhelming rush doing that stuff too.
Nobody ever parked too close to it, or ever wanted to race it.
Was almost like being The Fonz and John Milner at the same time. haha
