Well, it's kind of an academic debate for us in Ohio. Open carry is legal, but 100% guaranteed that someone who is scared of guns will call the police and you'll be in trouble for inciting panic. Even though it is legal and you could make a legitimate argument for "displaying talons" (as you colorfully describe), it is just not a viable solution....here.
Here in Ohio, CCW or non-carry are the only 2 practical choices. I suspect the same could be said for the majority of CCW states. ONly a few states have a comfortable environment for open carry (Alaska, Arizona, Texas.....I have been lead to believe.)
