Amen brother! People don't realize that a 1969 Firebird 400 is MUCH rarer than a 1969 GTO (about 5 to 1), and finding one with the original 400 drivetrain is extremely difficult. I once told a fellow Pontiac enthusiast (and GTO fan) that a 1969 Firebird 400 is as rare as a 1965 GTO convertible, and he was stunned.
I'm glad mine is matching numbers down to the intake, heads, and trans. I pulled the 400 over 15 years ago to build a 455, and I stored the matching numbers engine.
Most Firebirds you see listed on E-Bay are converted cars, many owners believe that once a 400 engine is installed, that makes it a Firebird 400, but there was much more to it than that.
