Same issue this past week. Shipped a trunk-lid via FedEx Ground from Canada down to Texas. Used packaging from the repro trunk-lid I received (with no issues) from Parts Place Inc, near Illinois.
The person I sold it too, received the lid, it looks like someone stuck knives or blades through the box and threw the entire package down a set of stairs! The net-net is the lid will likely need to be re-skinned (they even bent a corner, and crushed one of the foam edges I placed on the trunk edge). How hard do you have to hit the box to cut through heavy gauge foam??
My hope is he will recoup through the insurance claim. The laughable part is I made $0 on the sale - the cost to ship it ate my entire shipping allowance, and the value of the part (< $100).
I am trying to think of ways I can make it up to the buyer. I may try and send him some smaller 'gratis' parts to help ease his trauma (and pain).
I thought FedEx ground was much better than UPS, but now I am not so certain.
