Jeff Ive had plenty of 66s that were untouched and the last picture posted above is correct for a non a/c car.
I reproduce all the fuel lines(and have for over 30 yrs) .
A friend who was a Delco engineer of that era told me GM would never use over 12 inches of rubber in the engine bay due to risk of fire,
but when I showed him this set up,he reneged .
FYI the 66 a/c was same as early 67 which has a support bracket around the filter.
The OEM filter was superseded many years ago with a smaller diameter version which I was forced to use.
I simply wrapped the bracket in split fuel line to take up the slack.

I have since acquired some NOS filters that are correct.Olds was the most common application for those.
