Only as a passenger. The first bike that I rode myself was a 1955 BSA Road Rocket (650cc). However, I did a lot of riding on the pillion seat. I was the passenger in hill climbing events and field event competition. That was in addition to the street trips we took. All that I remember about the Ariel Square Four was that the rear cylinder ran hot.
By the time I was old enough to ride/drive my Dad was getting new motorcycles at least ever other year. I took the BSA when he got his '57 Sportster. He had quite a few other bikes after the Ariel.
