Its not because the paper work was screwed up...its intentional. Its called title washing. Several ways to do it but the most popular around here is to have a MS rebuilt title issued...then accidently loose it and request a replacement. The replacement is clean...then you can carry it to any other state you want and they will issue a clean title on it. I see it ALL THE TIME (I am in AL.)

Hmmm...never heard of that one. Most of the time the insurance company demands the title before they will pay off a total loss claim. And even if they didnt that title would be dead and the subsequent salvage title would replace it (they have things at the DMV called computers that keep track of all the VINs and titles associated with them), and you would not be able to register the the car in your name using that title. There for the transaction would be fraudulent.

Thats why you ALWAYS run a carfax...titles are easy to wash but it will show up on a carfax as having a salvage history. And dont give me that not everything shows on a carfax line...a total loss or salvage title will show up. A minor accident that didnt go through ins to fix might not a but a total loss will.
Try finacing a car and see if a carfax isnt the first thing they do on it.
But if it makes you feel better paying dealer prices for a car (and in most states extra taxes and fees because its from a dealer and not an individual) then go ahead.
I can tell you dont buy and sell very many cars. I just sold a 05 C6 Corvette (not even a Z) with 46,000 for $27,500. So again PLEASE show me where I can get a 07 Z with 12K miles on it for $30K. I will take 3....sell two and have $0 in the third one. You cant even find very many C5 Z06s with that many miles on them for $30K.
