i am very surprised that you are having problems with that compression ratio.. how many passes are you going before you notice a gasket going?? i had 14.7 to 1 and could go all year with my e-heads without changing gaskets, but its only like 45 tp 50 passes a year. I upped the compression for this year so we will see how it acts now.. i have no water going to the head either in the middle.
