It's an original AC car that has the 134A adapter ports on it and the top of the VIR looks like it's been replaced at some time. The compressor is new. I can pull a vacuum and it holds. I can only get in about 2 pounds of 134A refrigerant into it. 80% of 3.25 pounds of R12 means I should get 2.6 pounds of 134A in. The A/C clutch pulled in and ran for 2 min. blowing warm air in car. No more refrigerant would suck in and can was in hot water. The thermal overload was new when I started and looks like it hasn't blown. Overnight had 35PSI on both high and low sides with system off. On second try clutch didn't pull in.

I have a new dessicant replacement and will replace that in the VIR and repeat the process above but If that doesn't work I will be stumped besides replacing random parts in hopes of hitting the right magic combination where it works. Was hoping some more intelligent troubleshooting by like a shop or someone who knows more would be a better route at that point.
